Red avenue. Reflection
Nowadays, when we think about El Lissitzky and Russian avant-garde, images of compositions with red triangles, white circles and black squares go to our minds.
This graphic language that El Lissitzky used, has become into an attractive expression way that has lost its truly ideology. We are talking about a graphic language that has been used only understanding the formalism rules, but not the authentic meaning.
In fact, here starts one of the debates that have been discussed the last century; adebate between the form and the idea. This project doesn’t want to reproduce the forms that El Lissitzky has left us, but the background of those figures. It aims to make people think about what happened at Russian avant-garde time. And not only like a past history but like a history that have an influence to our present and future life. It would be a contradiction to get back all those figures from the past, while avant-garde ideology focused on the future. This project wonders about that future.
The project consists in a route through Krasni Prospekt. It wants to explain the Russian avant-garde essence, considering the relationship with the revolution; not as a past event, but a present process that wonders about the future. The route starts with the past legacy (footsteps from past revolutions) and how it influences to people (balls) making them change the way they think. People impregnated the city with their new way of thinking. So, that is, actually, a revolution; a revolution that will decrease and will become into footsteps again. That process ends in a big white round square which opens to the Obi River, making people think about the route and about today’s situation. A reflection that is what El Lissitzky wanted to produce ultimately.
COMIC
1922
“it must be looked from all angles, turning around it”
“is the symbol of a new world that exists through the people”
Here, there was revolution
…nowadays
They exist through the people.
Is there revolution here?
Here is revolution!
It is… so big. It should be looked turning around it.
But… where is revolution?
It is… so peculiar. It should be looked from all angles.
But… where is revolution?
So… where is the revolution nowadays?
What would El Lissitizky do?
SLOGANS
